Rent or buy? How to decide

There is no single right answer, but three questions help.

How long will you stay?

If you expect to stay five years or more, buying usually starts to make more sense. For a shorter stay, renting is often cheaper once you count fees and moving costs.

Can you afford the whole picture?

Look beyond the price. Include the deposit, legal fees, stamp duty, service charge and repairs. Compare that to your monthly budget, not just the rent you pay today.

What matters more: flexibility or ownership?

Renting lets you move easily. Owning gives you stability and an asset, but it is harder to leave quickly.
